This weekend Thomas spent time with his cousin and I had plenty of time for myself. One of my collueges lent me an Audiobook; Hape Kerkelings' "Ich bin dann mal weg".

At first I was quite sceptical. However, on Friday late in the afternoon I started to listen to it while gaming besides - and what can I say, I stayed up until midnight because I could hardly stop listening to the story. I enjoyed it greatly, because Hape seemed like your regular guy and I absolutely enjoyed the way he described his journey. Very interesting.

I did listen a lot of Audiobooks this past long weekend, though my audio library is limited. I do have the Harry Potter Books in Audio and Dan Browns "Da Vinci Code" and "Illuminati". But that's that. Unfortunately, Audiobooks are usually quite expensive, though I would love to listen to more of them.

But now I've found this website: http://www.audible.de They have a flatrate of 9,95 Euros per Audiobook (or less if it's cheaper) if you get the Flex-Abo. I'm tempted to sign up for the service. Any of you guys have experience with this service? It does sound really good in my opinion...

I really liked the book, although I wouldn't have bought it for myself...

Only ever tried one or two audio books. They put me to sleep and I loose concentration and miss stuff...

I like to put a CD in before I go to sleep, usually of a Harry Potter book that I know by heart anyways. It also puts me to sleep right away, it has something soothing, like when my grandma used to read to me when I was little. :-)

However, if I do something besides listening to the audio book, like sorting through paper or plain old gaming, I've found that works great.

Harry Potter -- the versions narrated by Stephen Fry? I heard they are awesome!

Yep, the english ones I got are read by Stephen Fry and yes, they are awesome! I also got some in german, they are read by Rufus Beck and he's really good, too.

I would definitely get the Flexi Abo, it's so much cheaper! If you really limit yourself to the monthly download, you shouldn't have a problem to find something!

This stuff is expensive, wow!

I signed up for audible last night and the first book I got is "Living Dead in Dallas", Sookie Stackhouse #2 (they didn't have #1). It's being read with a southern accent and it's really funny to hear it spoken out what I've never quite been able to pronounce myself when reading the books.
Yeah, Audio Books are really expensive... but as you said; if I limit myself to one book per month it's an affordable guilty pleasure with this Flex Abo.

HaPe
When I got the book first, I read it everywhere because I could not stop. But it was so embarrasing....starting laughing loud in a bus....

Later I got the audiobook too and I listen to it in the car...Once I had to stop, because I was shaking of laughing....

It is soooo good

Re: HaPe
I totally agree and I will listen to the book again once Thomas is here because I'm sure he'll enjoy it, too! I like the way Hape reads and describes everything, I could picture it all so clearly in my head!
Remember "Schnabbel", his shadow? I couldn't help it, I kept seeing my Ex's mother in front of me...
